CONSCIOUS FEMININITY

16/10/19
This season, since protecting the planet is on everyone’s mind, the environmental urgency also caught on for Paris Fashion Week. Beyond upcycled materials from unsold stocks at Atlein, the recycled wood runway and decor at Vuitton, outdoor fashion shows like Marine Serre  or Lanvin where the audience used umbrellas in the rain that will be recycled and thus reused … designers go beyond simple aesthetics to renew with the essential and rethink timeless, desirable pieces that will have longer life cycles, an echo to current imperatives. Though the propositions were very different, most had in common a desire for fashion that assumes its share of responsibilities and is creative but realistic. Inclusive collections transcended generations to reflect today’s diverse society such as at Balenciaga, Off-White or Alexander McQueen who all used over-40 models. Pressed to prove that there are still other ways to envision the future, designers nostalgically clashed eras, not in a boring way but rather tinged with seductive poetry to serve an assertive, committed femininity.

POETIC SEXINESS

At a time when fashion rethinks its consumption and the wardrobe itself, designers reinvent the future while leaving room for poetic fantasy. Starting at Loewe where JW Anderson convokes a glorious, aristocratic, dreamy past inspired by Velasquez’ Las Meninas…Valentino returns to the essentials of cut, shape and worked volumes to create an aesthetic uniform that doesn’t restrict a woman’s body.
