Report on Première Vision Spring-Summer 2025 – from February 6 to 8, 2024, at the Parc des Expositions in Paris.

A fair that is evolving with slightly fewer Italian exhibitors, but a significant presence of Japanese, South Korean, Taiwanese, and Chinese exhibitors for Asia, as well as Turkish and Portuguese participants.

The presentation of the season’s highlights is always organized around 3 forums:

The general forum with more aspirational, expressive choices.
The sourcing forum, more pragmatic, organized by types of fabrics: shirting, tailoring, knitwear, lace, etc.
The sustainable forum with a didactic approach to ongoing developments.

This edition featured a comprehensive offering of dead-stock, becoming a new sourcing reflex, with a space dedicated to fabrics from various exhibitors, in addition to specialized start-ups such as Nona Source (created by LVMH), Adapta (skins and leathers), or L’Atelier des Matières (an initiative by Chanel).

The emphasis on craftsmanship with the “Maisons d’Exceptions” space, dedicated to rare and sophisticated know-how, both contemporary and ancestral, with around twenty workshops and artisans, accessible by invitation (embroideries, embellishments, accessories).

In general, after seasons of quiet luxury and minimalist essentials, there is a strong desire for textile richness and decorations: textured fabrics, volume, artisanal appearance, giant motifs, and bold fantasies.

Natural materials are still in the spotlight: linen, hemp, regenerative cotton, wool… There is also a development of textile proposals mixed with wool for more seasonless collections, adapting to climate variations.

THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SUSTAINABLE FORUM

Textiles continue their profound transformation towards alternative paths to fossil resources, intensive farming, and polluting chemical processes. The exhibition emphasized the challenges and the following points:

Virtuous Naturals:

Certifications ensuring practices aimed at water conservation, biodiversity, and land revitalization.
Origin and traceability of raw materials.
For wool, the issue of animal welfare with farms prohibiting mulesing.

Renewable Synthetics:

Reducing dependence on fossil resources through the development of polymers based on agricultural waste.
Reducing the dispersion of plastic microparticles.
Promoting recycling and biodegradability.

Virtuous Finishing:

Transformation aims to reduce water, energy, and chemical consumption, as seen with waterless denim.
Closed-loop dyeing processes, with water de-pollution and recycling.
Evolution of natural dyes that now ensure color stability and reproducibility.

On the ornamentation front, initiatives are emerging to reduce the spread of plastic materials, such as sequins made from recycled polyesters.

In the Outdoor domain, the challenge is to eliminate perfluorocarbons (PFC) that waterproof textiles, using polyurethane coatings and membranes derived from renewable natural resources with accelerated biodegradability; impregnation with natural waxes or vegetable oils.

Sustainable innovations include:

Recycling of pre or post-consumer textiles, in polyester or with second-generation cellulosic artificial fibers, such as Circulose®.
Development of products from the agro-food industry, such as spinning fibers from pineapple or banana, or the chemical recycling of citrus residues, linseed oil, or hemp.
Emerging technologies like the process developed by Spiber, produce its Brewed Protein™ filament through exclusive fermentation processes of plant ingredients, similar to brewing beer.
The latest synthetic innovation is developed by Lanzatech. This new polyester comes from capturing industrial gas emissions from steel mills.

SOPHISTICATED NATURALS

VEGETAL DRAPERIES: Linen blended with cotton as well as wool in a seasonless spirit. Dry and fresh textures, subtle flames, and faux-unis with a chic touch rather than rustic.

SPECKLED & BUTTONED: Visual faux-solids that celebrate irregularity and artisanal spirit to bring life to draperies.

URBAN LINENS: Fluidized through blends with Lyocell, silk, or viscose/rayon. Elevated with lighter weights and lustrous finishes for a sophisticated touch.

TECHNOLOGICAL DREAMSCAPE

TECHNICAL LUMINOSITIES: Iridescent, translucent, pearlescent, or satin finishes, the techniques play with light. Lightweight in feel, with a crisp touch or a more fluid hand.

3D TEXTURES: Pleats, smocking, embossing, waffling, floating threads… creating fabrics that seem to metamorphose like chrysalises.

SPARKLING REFLECTIONS: Iridescent veils, glossy surfaces, pearly sequins, beaded embroideries with aquatic inspirations, crafted with exquisite precision.
